We haven't posted in a while, being that summer in Columbia is a special kind of weird. But we have had some equally weird (of the good variety) hair this summer! Check it out below!
Each of our clients have their own special style. We always love finding out what their new, desired look is. With it being the end of summer, everyone is squeezing in those wonderful natural colors along with those neon and vivid colors. If you have a look or hairstyle you want to achieve, schedule an appointment today! Feel free to comment and share!
So we have noticed a trend in our social media posting, and it is that people are loving our color "processing porn" as we in the industry call it. We haven't quite nailed down why it is that people love it so much, but if you know, tell us! Either way, we thought we would give the people what they want, so here is a post full of processing photos!
Personally, my favorite thing is to see my colors before I apply them to the hair, which usually results in some fun photos!
Pulp Riot is our go-to brand for fashion colors. They are so true to their tone. What you see on the paper is what you are going to get (if you start with basically white hair!)
There is just something so satisfying about watching color process. It's amazing to see how it looks on the hair vs. how it looks completed. Check out below to see some of our stellar processing vs. completed photos!
And sometimes we add glitter, just for giggles!
Bring us some fun processes!

So, a little over a month ago, we blogged asking for everyone to nominate us for the Free Times' Best of Columbia. You probably noticed us blasting this Free Times crown logo in hopes of encouraging everyone to vote. We want to say a special thank you to all of the voters and our supporters.
If you missed it, check it out here http://www.vividcolumbia.com/blog/nominate-vivid-best-hair-salon.
Well thanks to your help, we were nominated for the Best Hair Salon in Columbia!
And Lydia was nominated for Best Hair Stylist!
And now, round two!
It is time for the voting round! We would appreciate it so much if you all could click the link below to place your votes!
For a lot of us, summertime brings us a whole different routine. Between vacations, kids at home for a few months, and this crazy Cola heat, we may forget that our hair needs a new routine too!
Being out in the sun, salt and heat may require a little extra love for your locks. No worries, we are going to tell you how to maintain your hair's health this summer!
3. Treat Yourself!
Or your hair at least! Before your next color service this summer, we HIGHLY recommend adding on a Malibu Crystal Gel Treatment. Having this treatment before your color service ensures that none of the nasty stuff that can build up on your hair from pools and salt water, will react strangely with your color service. We could preach this one all day long and tell you some scary stories about chemical reactions, but we will just leave it here and say again that we really mean this one!
5. Try Dusting
Umm, what is that...? Well, dusting is a term we use for a haircut that is kind of not really a haircut. We know, sometimes we all get really attached to our 'beautiful' long hair and want it to grow just a little more. Super blunt statement alert, if you don't dust off those damaged ends, they will break off little by little, preventing your hair from growing and being pretty and healthy. And we really want you to have pretty and healthy hair!
Feel free to poke around our site, and check out our services.
Springtime always brings out the fun hair! While we love our bright, vivid colors, we love our natural, subtle colors too! It's the season for all those beautiful, warm hair colors. We've shown off some sassy oranges and yellows and some more natural browns and blondes. Check out some of the cool stuff we've been up to.
It's not every day you get asked for a gnarly mullet like this one. Bring us all the hair, especially if it's unconventional. Zach rocks this mullet like no other.

Fashion color and vivids are all over the place these days. We see them online, in magazines and walking down the street. These trends are so much fun, but a lot of work and care goes into these colors. We are here to answer some common questions and misconceptions about vivid colors!
The number one question we get asked about vivids is "How long do they last?". The answer may surprise you.
We tell our clients, that on average, their vivid color will last 6-8 WASHES. Some may last longer, some may fade faster. Again, everyone's hair is different and holds color differently.
These 2 photos of Rain were taken 4 washes apart (with a little intentional fading).
There are some things you can do at home, to assist in the longevity of your vivid color.
We hope this gave you a better understanding of how fashion colors work! If you have any other questions about vivids, leave them in the comments!
We look forward to turning you all into mermaids!
Nominations for "Best of Columbia" are wrapping up, so nominate Vivid! Best Hair Salon! And vote our amazing, talented Lydia Catherine Best Hairstylist too! The Free Times is currently running their "Best of Columbia" campaign where you can go and vote for your favorite businesses in all different types of industries. So cast your votes ASAP, not just for our business but everyone else's too!
We may be a little biased here, but we think that Vivid! is the "Best of Columbia"! And we hope you do too!
Every year, the local Columbia publication Free Times holds a campaign to find all of the local hot spots. It's a fairly in-depth process that allows readers to go online and vote for the places they believe deserve the title of "Best of Columbia."
NOt Familiar with "best of columbia"?
The first step in this process is the nomination round, running this month until April 30th. The nomination round is an open ballot where you type in the names of businesses in each of over 100 categories. But don't worry! As soon as you start typing Vivid's name in the hair salon section or Lydia's name in the hairstylist section, options will pop up so you can just click on us! As far as all the other sections to vote on, you don't have to enter something for everything, but the more the merrier right?
These categories cover everything from local tv channels, restaurants, real estate agencies and of course our personal favorites: Best Hair Salon and Best Hairstylist!
Why are we telling you this?
So that if you think we are awesome, maybe you will take a couple of minutes to go nominate Vivid! Color Cut Style for Best Hair Salon and Lydia Catherine for Best Hair Stylist!
And as always, we appreciate all of you so much, and thank you for all of your continued support! Vivid! would not be possible without you!
Nominations are almost over, so click the link below or the button now to go to the ballot!
Charleston Fashion Week 2017
March 14-18, 2017
Hair and Makeup Director: Ashley Brook Perryman
Being an assistant for most of the week, I was able to really enjoy watching everyone work. I learned so many fun tips and tricks!
The Real Barbies of Charleston made a guest appearance at CFW this year! Learn more about their week on Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/therealbarbiesofcharleston/
One of the most exciting parts of Charleston Fashion Week are quick changes. These occur when models from one show have to turn around and walk in another. In 20 minutes, large teams of people assist these models in completely changing their hair, makeup and clothes!
Featured Designer Lisa Hoang had a beautiful clothing line! I loved her hair and makeup look, accompanied by 15 large pins for 24 models (mostly put in by me...that's over 300 pins ya'll!) Talk about sore fingers...
Check out her line here: http://www.lisanhoangofficial.com/

This blog post features color, cuts, and twists by our stylists. Our stylists have been working hard so far this year to give all of Columbia the hair of their dreams! We wanted to share some of our favorite work of 2017 so far with you!

Hair By Lydia
She did this cut spur of the moment. She had a lot of breakage so we worked with what she had and created this textured bob. Finished with KMS Playable Texture.
Hair By Kayla
I'm obsessed with this gorgeous beach blonde. Timing is key in achieving this beautiful, healthy tone. We took her from dark brown to this beautiful blonde in four appointments.
Hair By Annie
Couldn't be more happy with this beautiful ombre. Finished off with some loose curls.
Hair By Janasia
Gave this babe a protective style for an on the go natural girl.
Vivid's Top Hair of 2016
Remodel, Flood, Then Remodel Again
This year has definitely been a journey. When we opened March 2016, we had plans to repaint, re-floor, add shelves and add new furniture. We made a ton of progress. Back in the summer, we decided to do the big painting job and the re-flooring. We took three days and moved everything out of the salon and started painting. On the third day, we wrapped up the last bit of the floor early and even moved everything back into the salon a little early. Just the next day we decided to take clients. There was a heavy rain the night before and when we showed up the next morning, we opened the door to find that the salon had flooded. We had to cancel the whole day, rip up the brand new saturated tiles, let everything dry and start over on the front half of the salon floor. Thankfully, we got it done and only had to postpone a few appointments! Since then, we put in some more shelves and more bright furniture. Everything looks beautiful! We still have a little ways to go, but we hit our goals for last year!
Our Talented Team of Stylists
In 2016, we have grown our team by a few! When we started the salon, it was just Kayla and Lydia. By the fall, we have added a chair to our original three and now have four stylists working at Vivid!. Currently, our two additional stylists are Annie Love and Janasia Smith. They are both awesome at color! Annie has a specialty of makeup and even does special effects. Janasia comes from a background of doing natural hair and has studied DevaCurl cutting.
Friends We've Made Along The Way
That's a little highlight reel of the past year and we are super excited to jump into this one! Come visit, and be a part of our next adventures!
