There are so many myths and wives tales out there about hair. We decided to take a few minutes to talk about some of the more popular ones we hear all the time!
Myth: Color takes better on dirty hair
A mentor of mine used to compare coloring dirty hair to painting a dirty wall, and it's so true! When you come in for a color service with dirty hair, the result can be that the dirt or grease on your hair prevents the color from penetrating properly. That, or that color is pushing dirt and bacteria further into your hair strand. We definitely recommend coming in for color with clean hair!
Myth: Blonde is high maintenance and expensive
With blonding services being some of the most popular and versatile services offered in the salon, it is very easy to assume it costly. We certainly understand that not everyone wants to be in the salon every 3 weeks for a retouch. There are so many techniques these days, taught through advanced classes and a lot of practice, that offer a beautiful, low maintenence blonde.
Myth: You can't color your hair while you are pregnant
A couple of decades ago, this may have been more factual based on the idea that the ingredients in hair color or lightener were very harsh. However, these days, hair color products are much more gentle, and having color done will not harm that precious baby in your belly. With that said, coloring while pregnant does have it's own quirks. The rush of hormones can sometimes cause color to take unevenly but definitely not a safety concern.
Myth: We only sell retail to make money
As much as we would like to say we are selling retail to make money, it's definitely not true. Buying products from the salon may actually save you money down the line. The products we retail at Vivid match the maintenence of what we deliver in your hair appointment. If you spend $200 on your dream hair color, going home and washing it with a $5 bottle of shampoo can compromise the quality of your color. We could preach this for hours, but we will leave it here for now. If you have any questions about what retail products could benefit you, give us a shout!
